Stray Cat Gets The Purr-fect Job At A Law Firm

A stray cat seen repeatedly hanging out around the Order of Attorneys of Brazil (think bar association but in Brazil,) was looking at doing hard time for his street prowling ways. After multiple complaints were issued about the cat, known fondly as Leon, for loitering in the reception desk area, it seemed that there were only two options for the tiny terror: hard time behind bars at a shelter or a purr-manent home.

Leon lucked out because rather than turn him in to the law, they turned him INTO the law. Sort of, anyway. They hired him! You see, Dr. Leon was particularly friendly and obviously... he belonged.

It's my sincere pleasure to introduce you to Dr. Leon o Advogato contratado pela OAB/AP

Dr. Jeanette Laredo turned to the Facebook group "This Cat Is E M P L O Y E D," to share the dirty details that led to Dr. Leon's rise to fame.

And as support for the stray increased, Dr. Laredo was excited to share the updates.

The purr-pose of the promotion? To silence his critics. Naturally.

Dr. Leon, the cat, now has his very own Instagram account with over 111k followers.

And it's not just the world wide web where Dr. Leon is famous. He's become quite the local celebrity.

In an interview with Bored Panda, Dr. Leon's handlers said:

In February it rains a lot in the state of Amapá (Amazonia), so he arrived at OAB fleeing from the rain and thunder. For a week, he was fed and protected in a box. Until he got hired.

Now, to be fair, it's worth noting that the complaints regarding Dr. Leon were more to the tune of his safety, not his mere presence. He was very small and most people were concerned he would be stepped on and hurt.

While, others... well, yeah, they complained about his mere presence:

[They said] that there was no space for him because it is a serious institution.
So the President [of the OAB] determined the hiring and gave him an employee badge.

Swerve.

The best news to come from all this? The future.

We are finalizing the documents to launch an animal rights institute. It’s called Instituto Dr. Leon. Unfortunately, we cannot house all [the animals], so we will fund the NGOs in town. We will be an example for Brazil [to follow].

Dr. Leon's handlers excitedly explained to Bored Panda.

My, how the times have changed, too.

Today, he is very dear to everyone.
Even those didn’t like him got used to his presence and have fun with him.
His favorite place is President Auriney’s sofa; he loves to play with his toys

And he is being very, very well taken care of!

Two months ago Leon was neutered and is already fully recovered.
But veterinarians say he had a problem with his vocal cords as a result of suffering as a baby. He hardly meows, but we keep taking care of him.
This motivated us to create the institute to help abused and abandoned animals.

Dr. Leon is keeping busy, entertaining guests as the enter and exit the building.

You could say he is the purr-fect greeter and the fact that he is a lawyer is just, well it's impressive.

And Dr. Leon has fans now, far and wide.

I mean, how could you not love this story?

The rise of a great cat is something we are always prepared to celebrate. And all cats are great!

We are also glad that Dr. Leon's Instagram account is as busy as ever. He's a funny sort of cat.

Everything under control here. Next year... I work out.
